UNDERSTAND THE MACHINERY OF YOUR WATCH BEFORE LEARNING HOW TO SET TIME ON THE G SHOCK 5146.
First understand to use the buttons on your tactical military g shock watch. Consider the names of the buttons on your watch, as illustrated in the illustration.

As we already know, the buttons have labels that say:
Adjust

For now, ignore these names and focus to the letters A, B, C, and D as shown in the diagram.

WHAT IS TIME KEEPING MODE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Important to understand that:
- By default, the g shock 5146 is set to timekeeping mode.
- This mode displays information such as the current time and date.
- do not need to switch to another mode to alter the time.

AT WHAT POINT DO I CHANGE FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL?
The analogue time immediately adapts to the digital mode as soon as the digital time is changed, it does not need to be adjusted.
How to change time in Analogue?
Analogue procedure is well written in this article but first you need to adjust the digital time, then follow the analogue procedure in this article if the time does not change.
ON THE G SHOCK 5146, HOW DO I CHANGE THE DIGITAL TIME?
let’s get started with the time-changing procedure.
Follow the steps <
Step 1: On G shock 5146, time is shifted one step at a time.
Hold down the ‘A’ button for around 3 seconds until you see a three-letter code flashing on the screen to enter time altering settings.
Example:
PPG are the three alphabets make up a city code.

Let’s say you’re in Chicago and your watch is currently displaying the code for New York, which is ‘NYC.’ You’d like to convert it to the ‘CHI’ code, which stands for Chicago.
When you press the watch’s B button, it will go up the list toward the upper city codes.
Similarly, use the ‘D’ button to move the city code down the list.
Move to next choice:
When you’ve finished selecting your city code, press ‘C’ to move on to the next choice, Daylight Saving Time.
DST (DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME)
The practice of advancing clocks (usually by one hour) during warmer months, also known as daylight savings time or daylight time (United States, Canada, and Australia), and summer time (United Kingdom, European Union, and others), is known as daylight saving time (DST).
If your city is currently on DST
| pressing the ‘D’ key will initiate the change.

If you want to switch back to standard time | Press the ‘D’ key. The D button functions as a simple on/off (toggle) switch.

Switching to the 12-hour/24-hour format | After finishing the DST, press ‘C’ again |
FORMAT of 12/24 HOUR
Press D:
By pressing it, you can choose between a 12H or a 24H time format, which is a military time option.
Time 12 hours’ format
- When you adjust the time to 12 hours’ format, you’ll see the ‘P’ alphabet appears.
- This shows the time from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
- On the watch, there is no A to denote AM.
24-hour format
- There is no P in the 24-hour format.

Setting the minutes
The procedure for setting minutes is the same. The minutes will be added by D and subtracted by B.

Setting the Hours
The numbers flashing on the screen indicate that you are now in the Hours section.
- By pressing D and B again, you can add and subtract.
- After you’ve adjusted the hours, hit C again to switch to minutes.
Year-Months-Day
Year
- the year will flash on the screen first.
- the rules are the same for D and B.
Months
- After you’ve selected the year
- Press C once again, and you’ll be sent to the Months section.
Day
- After you’ve set the Month, click C to get to Day.
- The rules are the same for the day and month.
- D adds to the equation, whereas B subtracts.
DURATION OF ILLUMINATION
This is the Final step, specifies how long the watch should keep the light on to illuminate the screen.
To Change the selection:
The toggle switch is the ‘D’ button.
By pressing D, you can change the selection to LT1 or LT3.
LT1 | LT1 indicates that the screen will be illuminated for 1.5 seconds |
LT3 | LT3 indicates that the screen will be illuminated for 3 seconds (Prefer) |

Press A | return to standard timekeeping mode |
HOW DO I CHANGE THE ANALOG TIME ON MY G SHOCK 5146?
If the analogue time does not adjust automatically after you set the digital time, it is likely that the mechanical side of the watch has been harmed by a strong magnetic field or a hard hit.
To set the digital time:
- make sure the minute and hour hands are both pointing to 12
- and the speed hand is at 9 o’clock
- or pointed to 50.
